The Island of Giudecca was originally known as “Long Spine” due to its shape. The Island offers some of the most stunning views of the mainland stretching across the 300 meters wide Giudecca Canal where the sun gorgeously sets. The celebration of “Festival of Redeemer” (the end of the plague in 1526), takes place every 3rd weekend of July evey year, the Venetians assemble a bridge of boats across the Giudecca canal with a display of fireworks.
