From Piazza Venezia, the via del Corso runs a straight course for about a mile ending at the Piazza del Popolo. The name 'Corso' dates from the 15th century when Pope Paul II introduced horse racing along the street. He loved all kinds of races and competitions, and the Via del Corso was the perfect street for racing. These races (corse) were imitations of the former games which were held in Ancient Rome. If you are keen on shopping, Via Del Corso is what you are looking for. Via del Corso is very popular among Romans and tourists and is home to famous shops. Here you can find the most well known brands and different clothes shops and boutiques. It would be better to come here on the morning hours as the place is less crowded and you can get in and get off shops more easily. We are sure you will be highly satisfied by the great quantity of stores lining up the most famous shopping street in Rome. Coming from Piazza del Popolo you will find the initial part of the street closed to traffic making your walking even more pleasurable. We also recommend to stroll around the Spanish Steps area, Via Frattina and Via Condotti are packed with elegant shops too.
