It is a wide square (rectangle shaped) with the namesake basilica at one end and several elegant shops and restaurants lined on the other three sides. Every side is bordered by historic buildings. The Basilica is absolutely a must-see spot, you have to step into this church (the name “Basilica” refers to churches of huge seizes). To the left of the Basilica lies the bell tower. We highly suggest to reach the peak as the 360 degree view of the city from up there is really emotional. There are plenty of cafes outside of Piazza San Marco that serve ice-creams too. In these places you will get a better sense of the local atmosphere.
