The church was begun in 1489, after the relics of St. Roch were brought to Venice. The marvelous 16th-century Scuola Grande di San Rocco and the adjacent church were dedicated to the Saint by a Venetian confraternity, just where his body was said to have been transported. The church was consecrated in 1508. The adjacent school became famous because of the Tintoretto’s paintings, some true masterpieces which represent perfectly the high art level reached by the artist. Inside the school mirrors are provided to having a better view at the ceiling art on the second floor.
