Giolitti is a well-known café and pastry shop, and the oldest ice cream seller in Rome, Italy. It was founded in 1890 by Giuseppe and Bernardina Giolitti and operates has two main shops in Rome, the one in the city center is located in Via Uffici del Vicario near the Pantheon. It is still owned by the same family.
The café is most famous for its ice cream (gelato), which comes in dozens of different flavours produced according to secret recipes. The rare flavours include champagne, cassata siciliana, ricotta and marsala custard.
The café is popular with both tourists and locals and is listed in many guide books with positive reviews.
The gelato is not hard to find in central Rome. Most of the gelato around here is high quality, but arguably still the best in town is at the famous Giolitti, nestled between the Pantheon and the Italian Parliament.
Ask for up to three flavors on a medium cone to go, or sit down at a streetside table and try to savor every moment. Try bacio, pistachio and nocciola for a creamy, nutty, chocolate-touched delight.
