Raffaele De Vico designed the Parco del Colle Oppio during the mid 19th Century. The project had the aim of making the city centre more attractive. After hours of walking around the Forum and the Colosseum in the high summer heat, these green gardens can be a welcome sight. Most of the park is covered with the remains of Nero’s Golden House. They are real skylight structures. You can also admire all around the massive remains of the Baths of Trajan which are scattered about the area. A stroll up to the Colle Oppio Park provides fine views of the Colosseum.
